Since the reform and opening up,China has experienced a significant period of population growth and accelerated population mobility, which has propelled the process of urbanization and the civic integration of the agricultural transfer population. Now the total number of Chinese overseas immigrants has exceeded ten million, marking the entry into the era of migration. This trend is accompanied by a transformation of domestic society and culture:first, the shift from an agricultural civilization to an urban civilization;second, the transformation from regional cultures to a pluralistic and integrated Chinese culture;and third, the increasingly strengthened connections between China and the global community. In the realm of Chinese anthropology and ethnology, research should encompass a global outlook to broaden its research horizons;prioritize an applied approach and actively engage in the governance of society;leverage the application of big data in research methodologies;and transition the focus of research from traditional emigrant regions to a heightened emphasis on emerging immigrant destinations.
