Review and Reference of the Development of Agricultural and Applied Economics in the United States
This article systematically reviews the development process of agricultural and applied economics in the United States and the prominent characteristics of its graduate education.Taking Cornell University as a typical case,an in-depth analysis is conducted to objectively summarize the advantages and experience of graduate education in agricultural and applied economics in the United States.Now,significant progress has been made in the construction of the discipline of applied economics in China's agricultural colleges and universities in terms of knowledge system,professional characteristics and other aspects.However,there are still gaps in faculty quality,curriculum system,training concepts,and platform construction compared to top agricultural colleges and universities in the United States.We propose that in the process of promoting the construction of applied economics in agricultural colleges and universities in China,measures such as expanding and building a high-level talent team,cultivating and introducing iconic talent in academic disciplines,broadening the scope of specialty,establishing the training concept of"New Liberal Arts+New Agricultural Science"and creating an international exchange platform are essential for helping China's agricultural colleges and universities build a world-class discipline of agricultural and applied economics.
