Criminal investigation,from its nascent stage,has embodied the attributes of both the"liberal arts"and"engineering",constructing an integrated disciplinary system guided by the criterion of practical utility in investigative operations.Unlike the continuous development of criminal investigation in some countries,the research content of criminal investigation in China has gradually become decoupled from technical content,steering towards a path of"liberal arts"that has become relatively distinct from"engineering".With the comprehensive and profound transformation brought about by new technology waves in the research and service orientation of criminal investigation as well as the new demands for investigative work posed by modern rule of law and the modernization of criminal governance there is an urgent need for a substantial integration of"liberal arts"and"engineering".This re-integration of"arts"and"engineering"is fundamentally different from the simple accumulation of technical content during the initial period of criminal investigation.In the process of building criminal investigation as a New Liberal Art,it is still necessary to aim at solving major foundational theoretical issues.Through sincere and professional academic dialogue,it is essential to meticulously summarize,anticipate,and indeed,steer the course of investigative practice.
