Utilizing the concept of cultural intelligence and adopting the perspective of reading ethnography, this paper frames museum visiting behavior as an intercultural interpretive practice with social purpose and as a dialogue with the dominant narrative of the museum.Drawing on the guestbooks of two exhibitions at Hebei Museum and the National Museum of Classic Books, the paper proposes an intercultural interpretation model for museum visitors, employing the"motivation-strategy-effect"framework.In this model, intercultural interpretation motivation serves as the starting point for visitors to interpret and share museum narratives.Intercultural interpretation strategy becomes a specific method and skill for museum visitors to engage with the museum, reflecting their subjectivity and showcasing individual personalities. The intercultural interpretation effect is the notable result of visitors'interpretive and sharing practices.Intercultural metacognition involves visitors'reflections on cultural differences and the museum's dominant discourse. These four concepts interact to construct a personalized narrative that corresponds to the museum's dominant discourse.
