Communication Failure of Posthouse System in Late Ming Dynasty and Its Political Effects
The posthouse,as a comprehensive medium and communication system,is intricately linked to the information network of an empire,playing a crucial role in its governance.In the Ming Dynasty,the posthouse served as a vital transportation hub and administrative channel,tasked with the transmission of military intelligence and governmental decrees,thus forming the infrastructure of national administration.The rise and fall of the posthouse system were closely tied to the fortunes of the regime.In the early Ming Dynasty,the posthouse system operated efficiently,ensuring smooth transmission of military and political communications.However,in later periods,numerous drawbacks emerged,leading to severe"communication failures"and ultimately resulting in dire consequences.This paper aims to utilize Harold Adams Innis's theories to analyze and discuss the rise and fall of the Ming Dynasty's posthouse system and its correlation with political changes from the perspective of communication studies.
