Narrative Turn:Breaking Through the News Discourse Crisis of Information Entropy
One of the crises facing the news industry today is the crisis of news discourse. While the traditional approach of conveying information has been practiced for many years,it has reached a stalemate due to involution and information overload. To overcome this impasse, there is an urgent need for a narrative shift. This shift entails viewing media as more than just a means of transmitting information but as a medium for producing meaning.Similarly, audience beliefs must evolve from mere receptivity due to information scarcity to critical engagement in light of information overload. Both shifts necessitate a focus on empowering the informed audience. The narrative turn primarily employs five documentary techniques—structure, time, space, perspective, and coding—to reconcile the relationship between facts, context, authenticity, and objectivity.Through these techniques, news reporting aims to present a comprehensive and accurate portrayal of public life to the audience.
