From Knowledge Production to Order Reshaping:the Innovation of Media Normative Theories and the Construction of Legitimacy in Chinese International Communication
The scarcity of discourse power in the international communication field fundamentally stems from the absence of subjectivity in knowledge production. From the perspective of media normative theories, this paper aims to explore the possible paths for knowledge innovation of contemporary Chinese journalism and communication studies against the backdrop of international communication.Media normative theories,as a kind of"meta-theory"that legtimizes institutionalized reality at the second-order interpretative level, are able to shape and maintain the existing order. The development of Western media normative theories has formed a mutually corresponding and co-constructive relationship with the evolution of international communication order.Given the current limitations of existing normative theories of media in China and the ensuing structural dilemmas for international communication activities,it is urgent to adopt a more reflective approach with"theoretically conscious"and intersubjectivity, construct media normative theories that have both local interpretive power and cross-cultural communication potential, thereby provide legitimacy for international communication. This may be achieved by reconstructing normative traditions from a historical perspective, analyzing the multiple roles of media based on empirical studies, and expanding the research horizon in the face of technological changes, with the goal of theoretically transcending Western hegemony and practically reshaping the international communication order.
