Reconstructing Rural Solidarity:A Field Study on the Localization of Social Media Storytelling Networks
The integration of mobile rural communities has long been a focal point of academic inquiry, yet previous studies have not thoroughly examined this issue from the perspective of communication ecology.Based on a field survey, this study reveals that the embedding of social media in rural communities revolves around three key components:online interpersonal communication(residents),online community interaction(community organizations),and visibility platform practices(platform media).Together, these elements form local storytelling networks through social media. In practice, this new communication mechanism reshapes rural collective experiences through ordinary communication networks, reconfigures internal rural order via digital governance networks, and redefines the sense of belonging within rural communities through algorithmic practices. As a result, rural residents are able to strengthen both horizontal and vertical community connections in the new communication environment, fostering a renewed sense of local unity. This research offers a novel perspective on the potential of digital technologies to revitalize local communities by unlocking their public potential.
