Disappearing Newsstands:User Comments,Digital Nostalgia, and"The Nearby Life in Memory"
Urban modernity has transformed traditional daily life and social interactions, leading to the widespread loss of"nearby life"among modern individuals. The disappearance of the"nearby,"symbolized by the newsstand, has disrupted daily social networks. This article analyzes video comments on Bilibili about newspaper stands(n=13,000)as a data sample, applying a mixed research method that combines quantitative and qualitative analysis to deepen the understanding of"nearby"from the perspective of digital nostalgia.Using computational communication methods,we analyze the frequency of core keywords and emojis in the comments, explore the thematic distribution and emotional characteristics of the texts, and construct a group image of users'digital nostalgia for newsstands.Through qualitative text analysis,we introduce the concept of"nearby in memory,"based on users'digital nostalgia, broadening the theoretical framework for understanding and reconstructing the notion of"nearby."
