While a significant body of scholarly work has reflected on journalistic objectivity, there has been insufficient analysis from a Marxist perspective on journalism. From a philosophical standpoint, the principle of journalistic objectivity as a reporting method is rooted in the epistemological traditions of empiricism and positivism. From a class analysis perspective, since the nineteenth century, the Western mass commercial press has successfully constructed and maintained its political legitimacy by positioning itself as the mouthpiece of the emerging bourgeoisie, largely through the discourse of objectivity. From a political economy perspective, despite numerous criticisms, journalistic objectivity remains the core principle of Western journalism because the journalistic workflow based on objectivity aligns with the production model of large-scale industrial capitalism. In contrast, the Marxist view of journalism, which emphasizes the class and party nature of the press and advocates for a more practical approach to journalistic work, offers a fundamental rejection of the Western conception of objectivity.
