"Ent-fernung"and"Insight Transmission":Media Phenomenological Interpretation of the Emotionality in Journalism
Media phenomenology offers a new perspective for rethinking the emotional attributes and emotional production of news. The emotional production of news involves not only the creation of news texts and products infused with emotional elements, but also the collective spiritual production mediated through the media. In news reports, the lived emotions of the"other"are conveyed and revealed to the reader's"self,"thus generating a shared emotional experience across subjects. However, this empathy is not a spontaneous, mutual emotional connection;it is an emotion mediated and shaped by the news, constructed through the unique form and structure of news reports.Engaging with the news means that the reader is immersed in the media, experiencing a temporal, sensory, and interpretive involvement that facilitates emotional sharing with the other. From a phenomenological perspective of"reduction and giving,"news can be seen as a phenomenological reduction of the other's lived emotion, offering a return to the emotion itself. The emotional turn in digital news is rooted in the enhanced emotional reduction capabilities of digital media, which enable a deeper, more expansive emotional engagement with the other.
