From"Close Despite Distance"to"Distance Become Close":Elastic Extension of News Value from the Perspective of Logic Spatial Parallelism
The importance of time has long been a subject of scholarly discussion. In today's fast-paced,multitasking world, people are increasingly overwhelmed, leading to fragmented and superficial news.In response, some scholars have sought to address the alienation of the news industry from time by turning to space, giving rise to the concept of"spatial journalism."However, this approach often falls into the trap of prioritizing space over time.Time and space are the horizontal and vertical axes of the news industry, interdependent and inseparable. The complexity of social life cannot be fully understood through a linear,one-dimensional concept of time, and space is equally dynamic.Only by integrating both can we gain a holistic perspective. This article argues that in the digital age,new forms of space-time-such as space-time compression, expansion, liquefaction, implosion, and folding-are emerging. These developments have led to a shift in the relative importance of traditional news values, with location becoming an increasingly significant factor. As a result, news value points are now more elastic, driving structural"decoupling"and nomadic production within the news industry.Drawing on the unevenness of the spatial energy field, this article proposes a new perspective-"spatial parallelism"-to better explain various phenomena, including the international public opinion field and the struggle for discourse power.
