In recent times,the"old Tianjin",including the Tianjin Concession,has been in asemi-colonial situation and has long pres-ented a mixed and ambiguous appearance.The novel Si Feng Lou,co-authored by Zhou Fankai and Wang Shang,and the documentary memoirs The Ford of Heaven and Little Foreign Devil written by the Power Brothers:Brian Power and Desmond Power in their old age,focus on the Tianjin concession,looking at the"leased"Tianjin from the perspectives of the self and the other,the dimension of imagi-nation and retrospection,and in the context of Chinese and Western intertexts and the ambiguity of the real and the imaginary,in an at-tempt to present the subtle psychology of Chinese and foreigners in the Tianjin concession,as well as the contradiction of identities that lie behind it.
