In the Middle and Late Ming Dynasty Confucian Poems, the Writing of Border Jams and Its New Changes
After the reign of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty, there were frequent wars, and the crisis on the frontier became more and more severe. Many well-rounded military and civilian officials with a background in Confucian studies thus emerged on the historical stage. While they rushed to the national crisis, they also used their poetic pens to grasp the pulse of the times, vividly recording their observa-tions of the frontier and their life experiences, bearing rich memories of war.The dual identity of"soldier-scholar"made these poems unique in artistic style, with a blend of bold and heroic, solemn and sorrowful sentiments, yet able to be contained within a deep and peaceful tone, forming a striking poetic style. The"frontier poetry"of middle and late Ming"scholar-generals"shows new changes in content, perspective, and sentiment compared to Tang and Song"literati"poetry.Exploring this will not only help us deeply understand the lofty patriotic sentiments and territorial identity of the Ming scholar-general group, but also enrich our understanding of Ming litera-ture and the history of Chinese frontier poetry.
