The Logic of Chinese Modern State Construction Towards Life Governance
The article proposes that modern state-building is a"continuum"of instantaneous revolution and historical reform,showing the"ladder"characteristics of nation-state establishment,consolidation of state power and enhancement of state capacity.At the stage of national capacity enhancement,one of the main elements of national construction is to incorporate the daily life system of the masses into the national governance system and carry out governance of life.The bourgeois nation-state's logic of constructing a"capitalized state"determines its"national developmentalist"institutional design and shapes its consumerist life governance path;socialist China's logic of constructing a regulated state produces a"local developmentalist"system.The logic of state construction of socialist China has produced the institutional design of"local developmentalism"and established the path of"communitarianism"as the carrier of the village community.At the micro-practice level of village life governance,the state power incorporates the governance of conceptual system,normative system and domestic system into the village public sphere,and by virtue of the"communitarian"life governance path,endows the individual life of peasants with the communal norms of public morality,public responsibility and public behavior,so as to realize the regulation,guidance and transformation of village society by the state power,forming the"local developmentalism"institutional design.By virtue of the path of"communitarian"life governance,individual peasant lives are endowed with community norms such as public morality,public responsibility and public behavior,thus realizing the state power's regulation,guidance and transformation of the village society,and forming a synergy between"communitarian"life governance and the construction of China's modern state and the improvement of its capacity.
