"Garpa"is a ceremonial singing and dancing art passed down inthe upper reaches of the Bailong River in the Diebu region.It is part of the folk Bon worship activities and folk festivals.Judging from the form and function of the performance,it appears that Gar pa belongs to an ancient Tibetan folk song and dance genre called"gar.""Garpa"is the result of the interaction between"gar"song and dance and unique regional cultures in themore significant historical processes and changes,and it eventually became an essential component of the"gto"(Duo)ceremony in the upper reaches of the Bailong River.Based on the fieldwork,this article starts fromthe synchronic performance of"Garpa"to explore the historical origin,activity content,and musical characteristics of the folk Bon ritual song and dance of"Gar pa."
