Korean interpreter Kim Ji-nam accompanied General Mukden during the China-Korea boundary investigation in 1712,and recorded the whole process in his diary Buk Jeong Nok,which has become the impor-tant materials to study the Mukden boundary determination. However, some records are ambiguous as Kim did not conduct an on-site investigation due to his old age. Thus more literatures are needed to refer to apart from Buk Jeong Nok to clarify the source of Tumen River and the real HongdanRiver. The diary also reveals that Chi-na focused on the boundary determination upon the Changbai Mountain in order to dispel Korea's doubts while hiding its purpose of making the map(The Emperor's Complete Territory). This reflects different attitudes of both sides toward the boundary investigation and the real situation of suzerain-vassal exchanges.
