The Process and Impact of U.S.-Japan-ROK Cooperation under the Spirit and Principles of Camp David
The"Spirit of Camp David,""Camp David Principles,"and"Commitment to Consult"are institutional tools used by the United States to strengthen trilateral strategic coordination among the U.S.,Japan,and South Korea(ROK)and to implement the U.S."Indo-Pacific Strategy."Leveraging its dominant position in U.S.-Japan-ROK trilateral relations, the U.S.has actively promoted the improvement of Japan-ROK relations and facilitated the signing of documents such as the"Camp David Principles,""The Spirit of Camp David,"and"Commitment to Consult."These agreements outline the path for trilateral cooperation among the U.S.,Japan,and ROK across four dimensions:military secur-ity,economic security,high-tech,and strategic coordination, thereby laying the groundwork for the ini-tial construction of a trilateral security mechanism. On this basis, the U.S.,together with Japan and South Korea, seeks to influence East Asian regional affairs, synchronize interference in China's internal affairs, meddle in the"Taiwan Strait issue"and"South China Sea issue,"and impose pressure and sanctions on North Korea and Russia. The established trilateral security mechanism binds the U.S.,Ja-pan,and South Korea more closely together, posing significant threats and challenges to peace and secur-ity in East Asia and beyond.
