Confirmation and Transcendence of Chinese Path to Modernization to Multi Modernity:On Eisenstadt's Concept of"Multi modernity"
Modernization has been the main theme of the world's historical process since modern times.Since World War II,especially after the Cold War,discussions on modernization and modernity in academia have gradually increased.The hegemonic bias that modernization or modernity is a"monism"has gradually been negated by the increasingly diverse modernization process and the world reality.There are essential differ-ences between Chinese path to modernization and western modernization,which are not only reflected in eco-nomic,political,cultural and other aspects,but also involve the concept and practice of modernity.Chinese path to modernization not only absorbs the advantages of western modernization,but also forms a style with dis-tinctive Chinese characteristics.There is closeness and similarity between it and Eisenstadt's"multi moder-nity".The former is the confirmation and transcendence of the latter.Examining the process of Chinese path to modernization and the scheme of modernity from the perspective of Eisenstadt's"multiple modernity",on the one hand,it helps to solve the puzzle of whether modernization or modernity is monism or pluralism,and walk out of the myth of"modernization=westernization"and"modernity is westernization";on the other hand,it is conducive to innovating the path of China's modernization and exploring the unique advantages and global sig-nificance of Chinese style modernity solutions from a new perspective.
