Reassessing the Theoretical Effectiveness of"Against Interpretation"
Susan Sontag's"gainst Interpretation"combines the two orientations of art criticism,criticism and construction.She tries to seek a breakthrough under the condition that cultural conservatism prevails.In terms of its ideological basis,Sontag's understanding of the essence of art comes from phenomenology,and her theo-retical development is influenced by the tendency of againsting traditional metaphysics and anti-theoreticism.Meanwhile,Sontag's theoretical development is oriented by her realistic concerns.However,Sontag relies too much on phenomenological reduction,ignores the relative independence of art criticism.Although the theory of"against interpretation"can promote the diversified development of art and contribute to form a new aes-thetic space and discourse mechanism,its theoretical stance is relatively radical,and it is not tolerant enough to other cultures.At the same time,its promise of aesthetic liberation is also too ideal.In order to create a new way of interpretation after"against interpretation",it is necessary to invent a Chinese hermeneutics outside the interpretation theory of contemporary Western literary theory.
