Semi-colonial Experience and Construction of Subjectivity in Late Qing Nation-state Literature
The proposition of nation-state literature in modern literary research needs to be re-examined in the con-text of semi-colonial experience. The texts of the late Qing Dynasty tried to transplant the nation-state literature of the Western European paradigm into the colonial Western cognition and realize the construction of anti-colonial texts.Under the influence of the hidden cultural traditions of the inland empire, the nation-state in the late Qing texts became a way to world unity again, which actually showed the inapplicability of the Western European para-digm in China. However, because the late Qing texts were produced on the coast in urban society,in the absence of a subjective understanding of inland rural areas, late Qing literati did not complete the subjective construction of nation-state literature in their understanding of the"colonial West".
