Objective:To analyze the causes and trends of maternal mortality in Zhuzhou from 2004 to 2014,and to explore strategies for controlling maternal death. Methods:Retrospective study using data from Maternal Mortality Surveillance (2004- 2014)in Zhuzhou. Results:The maternal mortality declined in the past 11 years in Zhuzhou.The top five causes of maternal death were maternal haemor-rhage,amniotic fluid embolism, pulmonary embolism,hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, pregnancy with heart disease.For maternal death,the following conditions prevailed:lower education,less and non- regular antenatal care,more intrauterine surgery,unplanned birth and medical level,etc. Conclusion: Reducing the maternal mortality needs the cooperation of each social department, strengthening health care education,consolidating and regularizing the foundation work of maternal health care, improving the recognition and cure capability to high- risk pregnancies of medical staffs.
