Research on the Performance of Jute Fiber Reinforced Metakaolin Cement Mortar
Incorporating fibers is a common method to improve the brittleness of cement-based materials and enhance their strength and toughness.Jute fiber reinforced cement mortar(JFRC)was prepared by adding jute fiber into cement-based mortar. The effects of the dosage and length of jute fiber on the compressive strength, flexural strength and splitting tensile strength of mortar were studied.Considering that plant fiber is easy to corrode and fail in high alkaline matrix environment, metakaolin is used to partially replace cement to reduce matrix alkalinity. The results show that the compressive strength, flexural strength and splitting tensile strength of JFRC increase at first and then decrease with the increase of jute fiber dosage and length. The opti-mum dosage of jute fiber is 0.75%and the optimum length is 10 mm.Adding proper amount of treated jute fiber can improve the mechanical properties and toughness of cement mortar. When the optimum dosage is adopted, the carbon emission per unit strength and cost of JFRC are reduced by 21.48%and 19.16%respectively.The research results indicate that JFRC is a plant fi-ber reinforcement material with high environmental and economic benefits.
