Information Equivalence and Missing of C-E Translation of Nouns with Suffix"Zi"in Report from Xunwu
Dialects contain profound culture. But the differences between Chinese and Western culture have brought difficulties to dialects translation. In order to promote cultural communication, this paper takes Thompson,Roger R's Report from Xunwu as the research object,Eugene Nida's functional equivalence theory as the research ob-ject,and uses NVivo to explore the equivalence and absence of nouns with suffix"zi"in the Hakka dialect. The translator first analyzes the function of words with suffix"zi"to accurately understand the information contained in it,and further realize the semantic and cultural information equivalence. The study found that most of the Eng-lish translations of suffix"zi"words in Report from Xunwu achieved information equivalence,so that the original readers and the translated readers could receive the same information to the greatest extent.A small part of the translation information is missing in that Thompson,Roger R failed to understand the function of words with suf-fix"zi".
