A Study of English Translation Variation of"Ch'ing-ts'ai"in The Literary Mind and the Carving of Dragons
Liu Xie illustrates the relationship of Ch'ing-ts'ai in The Literary Mind and the Carving of Dragons.On the basis of Confucian literary theory,he highlights the importance of"Ts'ai",constructing a new category of"literary quality".This paper studies"Ch'ing-ts'ai"from the perspective of comparative literature transla-tion and variation to reveal the variant forms and their variation strategies in the process of translation by exploring English translation of Vincent Yu-chung Shih and Yang Guobin.Comparing the two translations in the language level,semantic level and cultural differences,combined with the original meaning of Liu Xie,it can be found that these translation and variation strategies provide methodological instruction for the foreign translation of Chinese literary theory,meanwhile open up a new way for the overseas discourse field of Chinese literary theory.
