On English Translation of Event Allusions in MAO Ze-dong's Poems from Cultural Translation Theory:a Case Study of Four English Versions
There are so many kinds of event allusions with rich resources in the poetry of Mao Zedong,which were used flexibly with much novelty.This embodied the deep foundation of sinology and classical cultural ability with sublime writing skills of Mao Zedong,the poet and great man.In Cultural Translation theory,it emphasizes the essence of the translation is to translate the culture.In this paper,the translations of the event allusions in Mao's poetry from four versions are compared,analyzed and studied with the form of the lists.The finding is:If the translators hope to satisfy both the common English readers'understanding the main ideas of the allusions in po-ems and the senior readers'curiosity about traditional Chinese culture,the ideal translation methods probably should be literal translation,transliteration,liberally translation plus end annotations to introduce the cultural sources.
