Efficacy Analysis of Absorbable Screws and Metal Screw Fixation for the Distal Tibiofibular Syndesmosis Injury
Objective:To investigate the efficacy of the distal tibiofibular syndesmosis injury with absorbable screws and metal screw fixation. Methods:Taking 48 patients with the distal tibiofibular syndesmosis injury admitted to our hospital from February 2020 to August 2022 as the research subjects.Randomly divide these patients into study group and control group, while the study group was treated with absorbable screw fixation, and the control group was treated with screw metal fixation.Compare the treatment effects between the two groups. Results:Study sub-jects were followed for 12 to 26 months, with a mean of 16 months. All lower tibia and fibular injuries had been cured. The treatment efficacy was evaluated using the American Association of Orthopaedic and Ankle Surgeons(AOFAS)criteria, and the evaluation results showed there was no significant difference between the two study groups at 6 and 16 months after surgery. And there was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of sur-gery time and complete weight-bearing time between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion:There is no sig-nificant difference in the efficacy of using absorbable screws or metal screws for the treatment of the lower tibiofib-ular combined injury. However, the use of absorbable screw fixation avoids the secondary removal, reduces the physical and mental pain and reduces the length of hospitalization, and the economic burden is also reduced. The treatment method of absorbable screw has higher application value.
