A Study of Influences of Residence Patterns and Intergenerational Relationships on Self-Neglect among Rural Elders
In order to explore the impact of residence patterns and intergenerational relationships on self-neglect a-mong rural older adults,a cross-sectional survey was conducted on 702 rural older adults aged 60 years and a-bove in Guangxi,Jiangxi, and Fujian provinces using the Rural Self-Neglect Scale and the Intergenerational Re-lationship Scale. The results showed that there were statistically significant differences in intergenerational relation-ships and self-neglect among rural older adults with different residence patterns(P<0.01).Compared to living alone, residence patterns including living with a spouse, living with children, and living with grandchildren,as well as the interaction between intergenerational relationships and residence patterns, were all found to negatively predict self-neglect among rural older adults(P<0.05).It was concluded that residence patterns and intergen-erational relationships were significantly associated with self-neglect among rural older adults, and intergenera-tional relationships played a moderating role in the relationship between residence patterns and self-neglect.
