The nationalist characteristics of the"unity of spoken and written language"movement in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China
The language and writing reform activities since the late Qing Dynasty can be regarded as a"unity of spoken and written language"movement similar to that during the Meiji Restoration in Japan. This movement has always been associated with the construction of modern nation-states and has distinct linguistic nationalist charac-teristics.Among them, the expression of nationalism is sometimes"explicit"and exposed, and sometimes"im-plicitly"presented in an anti-traditional stance of"deliberate radicalism".
