论霍克斯译本《红楼梦》对中国文化的多维建构

摘要
翻译的文化转向促使文化翻译走向更为宏观的文化建构.本篇文章以霍译本《红楼梦》为研究对象,从副文本建构、思维建构和显化隐化建构三个维度分析霍译本《红楼梦》对中国文化建构的方式和途径.副文本建构以外围信息的方式弥补了西方读者对于中国文化和《红楼梦》背景信息的匮乏与不足,思维建构通过顺应西方读者思维方式,运用逻辑思维、抽象思维、具象思维、立体思维传达准确且可理解的文化信息、弥补信息不对等,显化隐化建构采用文内增益、引申或是简化替换等方式呈现文化信息.多维度的文化建构是霍译本成为中国文化资本,为西方读者接受的重要因素,为中国文化走出去提供了借鉴.
Abstract
The cultural turn in translation has led to a more macroscopic cultural construction in the field of cultural translation.This article takes Hawkes' and Minford's translation of The Story of the Stone as the research object through analyzing the ways and approaches through which their translation constructs Chinese culture and finds that they construct Chinese culture from three dimensions including paratext construction,cognitive construction,as well as overt and convert construction.Paratext construction compensates for Western readers'lack of knowl-edge about Chinese culture and background information on The Story of the Stone by providing peripheral infor-mation.Cognitive construction adapts to Western readers'thinking patterns and conveys accurate and understand-able cultural information through logic thinking,abstract thinking,concrete thinking and three-dimensional thinking to bridge any gaps in understanding.Overt and convert construction presents cultural information through techniques such as internal amplification,extension or simplification substitution.The multidimensional cultural construction makes translation version of Hawkes and Minford a valuable asset for Chinese culture and an impor-tant factor for Western readers to accept it,providing reference for promoting Chinese culture overseas.
