How Will Generative Artificial Intelligence Transform Education:An Analysis from the Perspective of Automation
This study examines the challenges posed by artificial intelligence(AI)technology to education by reviewing the impact of industrial automation on education in the twentieth century and drawing upon relevant research findings. It particularly analyzes the influence of generative AI's ability to perform non-programmatic tasks on talent demand in labor markets, the objectives of school education, and teachers'responsibilities. The study considers the emergence of generative AI as the true beginning of automation in teaching and education and suggests that research directions from the industrial automation era help reveal how intelligent automation might influence education.Consequently,it emphasizes cultivating human-machine collaboration capabilities within the core competency framework and developing lifelong learning mindsets and abilities. Moreover, intelligent automation is expected to drive the repositioning of education at various levels.
