In response to the urban heat island effect caused by rapid urbanization, based on long-term time series DMSP/OLS and NPP/VIIRS nighttime light data(NTL)and MODIS land surface temperature(LST)data, this study analysed the coupling trend and spatial relationship between urban development and land surface temperature in Zhengzhou and Kaifeng city, using the coupling trend model, coupling coordination degree model, spatial autocorrelation model, and landscape metrics method. The results showed that from 2001 to 2018,the high-value areas of NTL in Zhengzhou and Kaifeng city experienced three distribution patterns:from point-shaped,strip-shaped to surface-shaped.The regional connections between the cities had been continuously strengthened, and the trend of integrated development between Zhengzhou and Kaifeng had become more prominent.During the study period, the centroid of NTL and LST in the two cities shifted eastward. The distance between the centroid of NTL and LST in Zhengzhou decreased from 10.60 km to 6.66 km,while the distance decreased from 7.80 km to 7.38 km in Kaifeng. The overall coupling situation of NTL and LST had been continuously strengthened. The coordination level of NTL and LST increased continuously in Zhengzhou and Kaifeng, with the range spreading to the central and western parts of Zhengzhou and the eastern part of Kaifeng, and the area proportion showed an increasing trend.The"high-high"and"low-low"aggregation areas of NTL and LST in Zhengzhou continued to expand, while the aggregation pattern in Kaifeng was relatively dispersed. Our results provide theoretical reference for the thermal environment status and urban health development of Zhengzhou and Kaifeng.
