In Ming and Qing Dynasties,the household of civilian ships was the essential main body of grain transport.Its subjectivity is mainly reflected in three aspects,that is,trans-porting white grain,stripping grain ship,ship rescue.These three functions are displayed in Jiangnan area,Jiangbei area and the emergency situation when the official ship is blocked,and show distinct characteristics due to the significant social differences between the north and south regions of the canal.By exploring the difficulties and integration of shipowners in grain transport in Ming and Qing Dynasties,this paper focuses on the different functions and characteristics of shipowners in different regions of the canal from the perspective of grain transport.
