Hermann Bausinger was the initiator and an important promoter of German Volkskunde's shift from studies of ancient culture to studies of contemporary daily life after World War Ⅱ.In China,there are two basic understandings of Bausinger.In one,studies of China's daily life and folklore are informed by Bausinger's empirical research into culture science;in the other,Bausinger's empirical cultural studies are viewed from a phenomenological standpoint,and research into daily life is developed from the point of view of practical folkloristics.These two orientations are not diametrically opposed;rather,they can enrich our understanding of Bausinger in complementary ways.Bausinger contributed to the shift to daily life and practical reason in Chinese folkloristics and in this sense was also a highly regarded pioneer and superb practitioner of practical folkloristics.
