The Belt and Road Initiative has gone through a ten-year journey and is now facing the task and challenges of"restarting"."Promoting Education Action along the Belt and Road"points out the urgent need to strengthen the cooperation between Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China and Central Asia in higher education. This article explores the future development path based on the current situation, opportunities, and challenges of cooperation between Xinjiang and Central Asia in higher education.Over the past decade,Xinjiang and Central Asia have established platforms and signed cooperation agreements, providing a top-level design for promoting cooperation in higher education. However, there is also a disadvantage of lagging behind in the development of higher education in Xinjiang itself.Faced with the opportunity of expanding strategic partnerships with Central Asia countries and the development opportunities of Xinjiang in the Belt and Road Initiative,Xinjiang needs to respond to the challenges of projects from the EU,UK,US,Russia, and other countries aiming to occupy the market,as well as the competitive challenges from other provinces and universities in China actively expanding cooperation projects.Based on national support and government efforts,it is necessary to stimulate the potential of universities in student exchange, faculty exchange, academic research, education and training, and project cooperation.
