The modern Chinese frequency adverb"Dongbudong(动不动)"possesses the function of conveying the subjective evaluation of the speaker and tends to express negative assessments.It indicates that the speaker perceives a certain behavior,action,or event as happening too easily or casually.The reason behind the speakers use of"Dongbudong"to convey subjective evaluations essentially lies in the speaker's belief that the occurrence of the behavior,action,or event is irrational or unconventional,leading to a sense of surprise and mirativity.This is manifested through three pragmatic functions:pragmatic negation,exclamation,and strengthened interrogation.
