IMPROVEMENTS OF GUT HEALTH BY OAT β-GLUCAN BASED PREBIOTIC BLENDING FORMULAS IN ADULTS WITH DEFECATION DIFFICULTY
Objective To investigate the effects of oat β-glucan based prebiotic blending formulas on gut health. Methods The 24 h and 48 h in vitro fermentations on two oat β-glucan based prebiotic blending formulas using human feces were conducted. The effects of two formulas on gut bacteria were explored by qPCR and 16S rDNA approaches.Subsequently,a two-center parallel double-blind randomized controlled human trial was conducted in 192 adults with defecation difficulty. The participants were randomly assigned to one of three groups with a 28-day intervention.During the intervention, human fecal samples were collected and defecation feelings were investigated. The data were analyzed using generalized mixed linear model,t-test and ANCOVA.Results The results of both in vitro test and human trial found that, compared to control group, oat β-glucan based prebiotic blending formulas could promote the growth of Faecalibacterium prausnitzii,Akkermansia muciniphila,Holdemania and Blautia(P<0.05).Oat β-glucan based prebiotic blending formulas also improved the defecation difficulty and digestive feeling(P<0.05).Conclusion Oat β-glucan based prebiotic blending formulas can promote the growth of gut beneficial bacteria, and improve gut health in adults with defecation difficulty.
