The 75-Year Urban Governance System in the People's Republic of China:Changes,Logic, and Prospects
Over the past 75 years, the reform of the urban governance system in P.R.China has been influenced by national will, capital promotion, and citizen choices, gradually evolving toward good governance. The internal logic driving the establishment of the urban governance system has been rooted in political leadership, economic guidance, and technological advancements. While these factors have sometimes hindered the optimization and upgrading of the urban governance system, they have also served as the main forces for its innovation. One key development trend in urban governance is the concept of a humanistic city, which emphasizes the inclusion of civil rights in urban governance, such as political participation, economic opportunities, and social management. This trend advocates for a return to a people-centric approach in urban governance.Establishing a humanistic urban governance system requires reflecting on the legacy of previous systems, addressing current confusions and inefficiencies, and focusing on restoring the rights of the people in future systems. This approach aims to reclaim the humanistic essence of urban governance.
