Digital Transformation of Chinese Traditional Village Space Production beyond the Logic of Autonomy
Traditional Chinese villages, with their rich folk customs, distinctive geographical features, and deep historical and cultural heritage, are a cornerstone of Chinese traditional culture. In the digital era,the spatial production of these villages has not only surpassed the boundaries of autonomous development but is also facing new opportunities and challenges beyond the traditional logic of autonomy. From the perspective of spatial production, traditional villages reflect the demands of digital transformation and intelligent development in their physical, social, and institutional spaces.Specifically, the government plays a leading role in the digital protection of physical space.Enterprises foster digital interactions in the spiritual space.Digital governance of the social space is based on multi-level interactions.Drawing on the theories of Henri Lefebvre and Pierre Bourdieu, capital, power, and culture emerge as three key dimensions for analyzing the governance logic behind the digital transformation of traditional village spaces.Capital reshapes the physical and social structures of these villages in paradoxical ways.Power serves as a driving force throughout the spatial production and management of traditional villages.Culture acts as a living gene that reconstructs spatial production while integrating intellectual governance. Thus, transcending the traditional logic of autonomy,it is necessary to establish a"trinity"digital platform for the spatial production of traditional villages. This platform should include a culturally-oriented digital protection platform,an inclusive digital interaction platform, and a responsible digital business platform, balancing capital, power, and culture for sustainable development.
