Simultaneous Detection of Six Common Food Additives(Caffeine tec.)in Special Purpose Beverages Using High-performance Liquid Chromatography
Objective To establish a method using high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC)for the simultaneous detection of six food additives, namely caffeine, sodium saccharin, aspartame, tartrazine, erythrosine, and sunset yellow,in functional beverages. Methods The instrument employed a C18 chromatographic column and a mobile phase composed of methanol and a 0.02mol/L solution of ammonium acetate(pH not adjusted). The compounds were eluted by gradient elution, and chromatograms and spectra were simultaneously collected using four detection wavelength channels. Results The linear range for the six food additives was 1.00 to 100.0mg/L,with correlation coefficients all above 0.9999,and recovery ratios ranging from 91.0%to 108.2%.Conclusion This method is simple, rapid, and suitable for the simultaneous detection of caffeine and the other five other food additives in functional beverages.
