Comparative study on three efficient automatic welding processes for large LNG storage tanks
The capacity of storage tanks built for storing green energy LNG in China has reached 270 000 m3.According to the low efficiency of traditional SMAW welding and the presence of manganese vapor and CO2 fume.Three automatic welding methods,i.e.,hot wire TIG,FCAW and MIG were adopted for this project, and a large amount of experimental research was carried out, which greatly improves the welding environment of LNG storage tanks, and greatly improves welding efficiency and quality. The results show that the surface formation of the weld by automatic welding is much better than that of SMAW;MIG welding has the highest efficiency; The low-temperature impact toughness of welded joints is the best for hot wire TIG.At present, the three types of automated welding have higher requirements for on-site assembly accuracy than SMAW,and hot wire TIG has the highest requirement for assembly accuracy. Therefore, further improvement of the automation level is needed for extensive application in engineering.
