Research on magnetic flux leakage detection technology for defects in domed roof storage tanks
In view of the problem that the safe operation of the tank roof is seriously threatened by corrosion damage on both the inner and outer walls due to the effects of environmental factors and the contents stored in the long-term operation of the domed roof storage tank, the study of magnetic flux leakage detection technology for the domed roof of these storage tanks was carried out.A three-dimensional model for magnetic flux leakage detection of the tank dome was built, and finite element analysis was employed to solve this model. The influence of different influencing factors on the characteristics of magnetic flux leakage signal was analyzed, and the influence of different influencing factors on the leakage magnetic field of the tank dome defect was obtained by fitting the peak value of the leakage magnetic field. The results show that the peak value of the magnetic flux leakage detection signal for outer wall hemispherical defects aligns linearly with the defect radius, while for inner wall hemispherical defects,it follows a quadratic fitting curve. The magnetic flux leakage detection signal generated at the reinforcement ribs has a waveform opposite to that of the defect detection signal.Laboratory experiments on magnetic flux leakage detection of the tank domed roof show that this method can effectively detect defects on the domed roof of storage tanks,as well as ascertain the depth and location of these defects.
