Investigation on calculation method of soil pressure on mounded spherical tanks
Due to the coverage of soil layer, the working environment of mounded spherical tanks becomes complex. To address the issue of inaccurate calculations of uneven soil pressure on mounded spherical tanks, the existing calculation methods of soil pressure for the mounded tank were reviewed, and a numerical calculation method for calculating the soil pressure on mounded spherical tank was established using Ansys software.Additionally,an experimental bench of the mounded spherical tank was built to verify the reliability of the numerical model.Subsequently,a tank-soil coupling model was established for a 1000 m3 mounded spherical tank, and the distribution patterns of uneven soil pressure within 20 m depth was analyzed in detail, which shows that the maximum pressure occurs at the bottom of the mounded spherical tank, while the minimum pressure occurs at the equator. Finally, the two main factors, the mounded depth and radius of tank were further discussed based on a large number of sample calculations. It is found that the calculated result of the existing method is 43% lower than the actual value, which is dangerous.A new formula for calculating soil pressure was proposed, and the calculated result is about 10% higher than the actual value, which is considered safe.By comprehensively considering the calculation results and practical application, the formulas are applicable for calculating the soil pressure of spherical tanks with a diameter less than 20 m and a soil cover depth below 40 m.This study can provide a reference for calculating the maximum soil pressure in the engineering design of mounded spherical tank.
