Analysis of the Development Trends in Regional Medical Devices:A Case Study of Industrial Clusters in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Yangtze River Delta Region
Objective To analyze the development trends of medical devices in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Yangtze River Delta Region objectively,evaluate the industrial layout and development level of each city,and provide reference for national and regional industrial planning and policy formulation.Methods This study quantitatively analyzed and compared the revenue,enterprises,and product situation of medical devices in the two regions from three levels:macro-level from regions,meso-level from cities,and micro-level from products.Results The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Yangtze River Delta Region were the key development areas for China's medical device clusters,with significant industry scale and revenue ranking among the top in China,showing a clear upward trend.Cities such as Shenzhen,Shanghai,and Suzhou had a concentrated distribution of medical device companies,with a higher proportion of companies producing Class Ⅱ and Class Ⅲ medical devices,as well as a high level of enterprise activity and significant number of newly registered product.The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area had significant advantages in areas such as in vitro diagnostic products(IVD),medical software,and medical imaging devices,while the Yangtze River Delta Region had a dense product layout in terms of IVD,medical imaging devices,therapeutic devices,and polymer medical materials,forming a certain degree of complementarity among cities in the same region.Conclusion Significant advantages were shown in the development of medical devices in these two regions.It is necessary to continue strengthening policy guidance,investment in science and technology and finance,incentivizing continuous improvement and upgrading of industrial products,leveraging local advantages for regional differentiation and complementarity,and fully utilizing locational advantages.These are the development strategies that can be adopted by the medical device industry in these two regions.
