George Bernard Shaw,the renowned Irish playwright,enjoys significant acclaim in China.Despite this,the two"completed"productions of his dramatic works in the country have elicited varied critical responses.This article commences by highlighting the critical necessity of scrutinizing the enactment of Shaw's plays within the Chinese theatrical landscape through a performative lens.Subsequently,it delves into an analysis of the pivotal elements shaping the manifestation of Shaw's theatrical productions as performative events in China,taking into account the performative dimensions of the producers'objectives,the texts themselves,and audience reception.Finally,the article explores possible directions for future production of Shaw's plays in China.
