Naipaul's works mainly consist of two types:fiction and non-fiction.The images of China in these two genres are vastly different.China in fiction serves as a backdrop for Western superiority, showcasing Naipaul's"Western eyes"gazing on the"other"China. His non-fiction records that China is a rising Asian country, following the creative principles of non-fiction to reflect facts objectively.Different images of China reflect some historical deviation. This paper is to analyse the typical works of these two genres.Jim Liang, the revolutionary Fu Manzhou,is a representative of an evil China, while the Chinese acrobatic troupe in Europe presents a confident China. These different images show Naipaul's different writing ideas. The diversity of Chinese images in non-fiction goes beyond the bipolar models for image of China in English literature, reflecting the new development of contemporary image of China and enriching the narrative image of China in contemporary English literature.
