Rationality and Intimation:Politics and Its Ethical Attributes—Based on the Perspective of Michael Oakeshott
The increasing politicization of both individual life and social activity has made it urgent to reaffirm the limited nature of politics.Politics has gradually become the main theme of human activities due to the strong invasion of rationalism and the decline of traditional concepts. As the central mode of thinking for recognizing and generating technical knowledge, due to the intentional concealment or disregard of the"intrinsic"character of rationality, rationality has gradually risen to the top of the holistic mode of thinking and has gained unlimited and absolute authority.Rationalism was thus born and was the first to develop a rationalist view of politics in the political field and to have a destructive effect on many aspects of social life.In contrast, the non-political view of politics takes tradition as the basis for the reality of politics, intimation as the purpose of political activity and finitude as the core of its values.Finitude is the most central ethical attribute in Oakeshott's view of politics, and it is the ethical value cornerstone for unfolding the critique of rationalist politics as well as constructing an apolitical view of politics.
