Whether Synthetic Biology Challenges Traditional Views of Life
Synthetic biology provides a new way of active construction for revealing the mystery of life,which is of great significance for human to deeply understand the nature of life and promote scientific and technological innovation.However,designing and constructing life from scratch is also considered to be a challenge to the traditional view of life,causing controversies such as"playing God",challenging the definition of life,violating the dignity of life,and interfering with natural evolution.However,some of the arguments that support the challenge are untrue and require reflection and clarification:synthetic biology is not the same as God creating life from nothing,but a copy of nature's genes.The definition of life should follow a constructive path,not an immutable one.Synthetic life has not really evolved apart from nature,it should share natural properties and can merge with nature.Finally,we should take a proper view of the challenges and risks posed by scientific and technological progress,and prudently use synthetic biotechnology so that it is dedicated to the benefit of human,not harm.
