The Paradox of Reversion:The Time and the Space Narrative of The Rains by Huang Jinshu
The Rains,a collection of short stories by Malaysian Chinese writer Huang Jinshu,is marked by the reverse and multi-directional in time and space narrative.Huang goes back in time reversely to find the memory of his ancestors, but unintentionally trapped himself in the marginal position. He also goes it in the multi-directional way, making life constantly cycle, showing a carnival of life. But these are closed in the rainforest, seemingly vigorous, but actually void. The writing pattern leads to the contradiction between the writing purpose and the result. As a result,Huang's initial positive attitude in the face of identity, nationality and other issues turned into awkward self-closure and rigid self-definition.
