During the Xizong period of the late Tang Dynasty,Chen Kangshi created a Guqin song of the same name based on the long autobiographical poem Li Sao,which is the earliest record of Qu Yuan's literary works being put to music in history books.While in the Tang,Song and Yuan dynasties,the music scores have been lost.Until the early Ming Dynasty,Li Sao was found in Zhu Quan's Micaculous Secret Tablature of the.QIinn the next 500 years,37 versions of the Guqin scores were published and circulated.The publishers including royal princes,eunuchs,literati,merchants and even the populace,have taught the music orally that inspired true understanding,and passed from generation to generation.After the founding of the People's Republic of China,Guqinist Guan Pinghu melodized the Ming and Qing heritage records,which echoed the promotion of Qu Yuan's patriotism at that time.From the birth of the Guqin song of Li Sao to the melodized scores in New China,the music has its unique artistic quality,and also has a symbolic and representative tone of literati and scholars,who consciously have taken on the spirit of the country.
